The distribution of these items was based on prior engagements with the girls during focus group discussions where they highlighted their difficulty in assessing these personal hygiene materials and the effect it was having on their day-to-day life and stay in the haven.
A press statement on Tuesday, October 31, 2023, by Mr. Bright Kweku Appiah, the Executive Director of Child Rights International, Ghana (CRI), said 19,743 children are currently unable to attend school as a result of the spillage from the Akosombo and Kpong dams.
Child Rights International, Ghana (CRI) has donated GHȻ 50,000 to the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) as emergency support to children and families affected by the Akosombo Dam spillage.
The Executive Director of CRI, Bright Appiah, made the donation during his visit to some affected communities in the Volta Region on Thursday, October 19, 2023.
Mr Appiah said the purpose was to assist them to have a means of transportation to get to school to avoid the difficulties they faced to access education, go to school early, get home early from school to do other things.
The Mobility Project is aimed at providing tricycles to school going children in cocoa growing communities without schools as a means of transportation to and from school to access education.
